A Career Shift: Leaving the PSP Industry…

I wonder what happens to a PSP who finally decided to leave the industry for good and would like to settle back on being a normal person again. I asked one of the PSP I knew before she retired from the industry and into the next chapter of her life. I was totally amazed of her decision to let go and move forward although I have missed our conversations over a coffee and rendezvous at one point in life. Not knowing if we can still meet again since it will be our last conversation as a guest – client at that time. It takes a lot of guts to step out of the shell of being PSP and changing herself as an ordinary Jane which is a metamorphosis of new positive life. Everything in being a PSP is all TEMPORARY and NOT PERMANENT SOLUTION especially with financial burdens and poverty. It is a hard fact that there are many dependents to support making them breadwinners of their families and feeling the brunt of it without being comforted by their own loved ones. Some ladies love the piece of the action and do this for just for fun of in making extra buck. Others are living independently from their parents and are supporting themselves on their studies and defray personal needs to cover daily expenses from school or other works.

What Are Their Options:

1. Getting a real JOB – Some people will tell on the media that there are no available jobs for their kind, but I totally disagreed with them especially from those who hadn’t hard work to find a job. There are many job openings for customer services representatives in Business Process Outsourcing right now and country has become a bright spot in macroeconomic fundamental showing the growth of the economy. If one has the so called HARD SKILLS from typing, using a powerpoint for presentations or SOFT SKILLS from answering phones with proper telephone etiquette, entertaining a guest if becoming a reception could help you get the edge against others in an office settings. Work at home jobs are getting popular nowadays with the establishments of Freelance and Odesks website for online freelance work.

2. Finishing a High School diploma or earning a Baccalaureate degree – Education is very important, we Filipinos do value education very much as a treasure no man can take from you. However, rising cost of education has become drastic within the past few years. Rapidly increasing at 10% to 30% annually in private college or universities alone. State colleges and Universities have increased but that not that high which in turn making it hard for anybody to finish it on time or finish it at all. I could still remember one PSP’s dream of earning their college degree which is life achievement for them or anybody. For those who hadn’t completed their high school yet can take the Alternative Learning System (ALS) by the Department of Education. A module is given to student once a week using computer or sometimes with one on one teaching approach with a DEPED teacher. The annual test is taken on the April or October.

3. Enroll on Alternative Education or Training – there are free trainings from TESDA offered by accredited training centers from private institution or local government units. Some TESDA courses require affordable payments to defray the cost of training expenses with more than 3 months to one year training. For most, courses in hospitality and tourism are IN DEMAND here and abroad especially those that are associated in shipping industry. Work available like Baristas Chambermaids / Housekeeper, Chef, Food attendants, Photographers etc are offered especially with cruise ships. Getting into the shipping industry also requires an interested person to get a SOLAS or the so called Basic Seaman Training Course.

4. Being Road blocked (RB) by a GM – this is the least option I know for most PSP wishing to be supported by a gentleman by having a security blanket. But, there are only few men who are willing enough to sacrifice everything to get the PSP out of this industry. I may disagree at times with the roadblock scenario because it is only temporary or very short term in my opinion in which it can only patch a few holes if this is TRUE LOVE? and not a mere INFATUATION or LUST?. We can never tell, if both parties would lived up to their relationship as a husband or wife or partner? I cannot foresee the future only both parties can make the relationship work if it becomes successful.

Conclusions to this Topic

I am very much hopeful that the ladies who are reading this could be more enlightened with my perspective on hand especially those ladies who are thinking that they could still be at the top of the food chain and cannot be replaced with new faces. They should be thinking of the long term or foreseeing herself in the future with her different achievements in life other than a PSP with a small footnote in one’s life.
